Team Leader/Supervisor

A team leader/supervisor is a first-line management role with operational/project responsibilities, or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome.

Key responsibilities may include: supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving issues, and building relationships internally and externally. Roles may include, but are not limited to: Supervisor, Team Leader, Project Officer, Shift Supervisor, Foreperson, and Shift Manager.

Programme & Progression

Typically this apprenticeship will take 12-18 months to complete.

The Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeship was created to provide new or existing team leaders/supervisors with the knowledge, skills and behaviours in order to manage and develop team members, manage projects, plan and monitor workloads and resources, deliver operational plans, resolve problems, and build relationships internally and externally. The programme benefits from classroom delivery led by CMI and LPI accredited facilitators. This will consist of 6 classroom sessions and a range of interactive learning including Online Group Coaching and e-learning modules. This delivery is designed to provide and fulfil the knowledge requirements in the apprenticeship standard. Regular performance reviews will take place between the apprentice, training provider and line manager in order to monitor expected progress. Development of a portfolio of evidence will also take place throughout the programme, which is designed to evidence attainment of the required knowledge, skills and behaviours of the apprenticeship standards.

Leadership Pipeline Institute

In addition to studying with the Chartered Management Institute, the Leadership Pipeline Institute (LPI) is the leading global provider of solutions based on the Leadership Pipeline, and the Performance Pipeline books written by Ram Charan, Steve Drotter and Jim Noel. The authors illustrate how organisations can develop leadership at every level by identifying future leaders, assessing their corporate confidence, planning their development and measuring their results. In business, leadership at every level is a requisite for success. Due to the international success of this model, many fortune 500 companies have implemented the Leadership Pipeline concept as their key architecture for selecting, developing and assessing leaders. Encompass can deliver LPI content alongside the apprenticeship standard if required by the organisation.

Requirements

Entry requirements for this standard will be decided by each employer, behavioural and self-management requirements typically include candidates who demonstrate effective problem solving and decision making, professionalism, inclusivity, flexibility to the needs of the organisation, and a drive to achieve in all aspects of work.

Learners without a Level 2 or equivalent qualification in English and maths will need to achieve this prior to taking the end-point assessment. Apprentices can also achieve their Level 3 Principles of Management and Leadership with CMI through taking the following units:

311 Contributing to the delivery of a project
312 Managing daily activities to achieve results
314 Managing budgets and resources
318 Managing data and information
321 Managing own personal and professional development

End Point Assessment

The programme contains a 360 degree feedback tool, which is completed at various stages to measure impact of learning to the wider organisation. At the end of the programme delegates will complete an End-Point-Assessment, which is completed by CMI over a period of 3 months. This will assess the Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours acquired through the programme. This will include a knowledge test using scenarios with questions, a competency-based interview, assessment of the portfolio of evidence, and a professional discussion relating to CPD activity undertaken throughout the programme. The weighting of these is split 30%, 30%, 20% and 20% respectively. By achieving the standard, and the CMI Level 3 Diploma, candidates will then be awarded with Foundation Chartered Manager status and the opportunity to enhance their CMI membership.
